The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was sentenced of planning a military coup in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under home detention pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a call for a supporters' gathering that could facilitate a possible escape.
